1   About SAPMO

After the unification of Germany, the "Stiftung Archiv der Parteien und Massenorganisationen der DDR im Bundesarchiv" (Trust of Archives of the political parties and mass organizations of the German Democratic Republic [GDR] at the Federal Archives; SAPMO) was founded with the goal to take over the archives of political parties and of the organizations and political entities of GDR connected to these parties; to secure them permanently; to make them available; and to complement them. This also includes other documents, records and library inventories dealing with the history of Germany.
SAPMO started its work on 3 January 1993.

All documents of the Kulturbund der DDR (cultural mass organization of the GDR) with its many expert divisions, associations and sections are now located at SAPMO.
This includes the documents and records of the Department of Esperanto / of the Esperanto-Verband im Kulturbund der DDR (the Esperanto Association in the Kulturbund of GDR; GDREA), 1965 – 1991.

On 11 August 2005, Wera and Detlev Blanke signed a Contract with SAPMO, stipulating the handing over of all professional documents of the family Blanke in the form of a bequest in favor of SAPMO.

Parts of the bequest can be included in the Collection at SAPMO already during the lifetime of the family Blanke.

Karl-Hermann Simon was a forestry scientist. He initiated and headed the work on the multilingual forestry dictionary "Lexicon Silvestre". Simon was also leader of the Esperanto group in Eberswalde and was a member of the executive board of GDREA.
